Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet shared an update about injuries to Jai Field and Kaide Ellis following his side’s defeat to Hull FC.
The Warriors were knocked out of the Challenge Cup, losing 26-22 to Hull, after a match of two halves.
Wigan dominated the first half whilst Hull FC’s defence struggled to contain their attack, going into half-time with a 22-6 lead.
The Black and Whites had a superb second-half display, scoring 20 unanswered points to put their hat in the ring for the quarter-finals.
The Wigan boss shared his thoughts on his side’s performance as well as gave an update about Jai Field’s injury.
The fullback limped off after just twenty minutes with a hamstring problem and was later seen fully dressed on the sidelines.
Peet said: “Jai just felt a tightness, it’s one of those that you can’t risk.”
He also shared that Kaide Ellis passed his HIA so will be available next week.
On the second-half performance, Peet added: “Hull were outstanding and we were very poor.
“We did some things that allowed them to be outstanding and overplayed our hand at times.
“Credit to Hull, they were magic but we need to be a lot better than that.”
He admitted that a loss like that and being knocked out of the Cup hurts him as well as his players.
When asked if the loss was down to complacency, he said:Â “I hope not, I don’t think so.
“It doesn’t really matter now, it’s about what we do next.”
He concluded with an honest assessment, saying that losing is part of the sport.
He finished: “It’s part of the job, we’ve had some good success.
“It might do us some good to get a smack in the face.”
Wigan Warriors will continue in Super League next week with a trip to Leeds Rhinos on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports Action.
Both sides will be looking to push on in the league after being knocked out of the Cup.

Something not right this year with wigan. Maybe some players think too much focus on two or three players and the rest not getting the deserve they should get as well. On televised matches lately you sometime think only three players are any good and the rest of the wigan team are only backing them up. The result with Hull surely is the comeback of the resent seasons.

This is the level of reporting on RL even in the dedicated sites. Just journo’s watching the tele, isn’t it? Or copying and pasting?
A verbatim recording of Peet’s comments after the BBC transmission of the game, and that’s all, apart from the added nuance that Peet seemed to have lost that much admired calmness. And why not? His team were outplayed and out-energised in the second half and I don’t think I’ll tire of watching Martin’s hat trick.
Suspected that Wigan WOULD have a reaction to their Vegas trip…expected it last week tbh but this will do nicely thank you. Great game to watch even if just for the schadenfreude and I’m hoping Hull can go all the way this year…unless they play Saints that is.
