Wigan Warriors were able to overcome St Helens 20-18 this afternoon at Elland Road.
Wigan raced into a 14-0 lead by half-time, but were pegged back by Saints to be behind 18-14.
Liam Marshall intercepted a Jonny Lomax pass to run over 80 metres to register the winning score and send Wigan to Tottenham.
Wigan boss Matty Peet was incredibly happy to get the win.
“I knew the prize at the end of this would be huge and we’ve spoken a lot about what we need to be.
“There was a time when both teams were dominant in that game, credit to the resilience in the group.
“You’ve got to judge yourself against the best team and so to have a good first-half against them means more.”
Despite the win, Peet still hailed St Helens as the best team in the competition.
‘They are still the benchmark and it’s going to take years to disrupt that – this game doesn’t change that, but on any given day we’ve got a chance.
“Our endeavour got us through.”
The Wigan boss also hailed the fans and why the win was for them.
“That’s 100% all the emotion for me and pride – it’s all about that so many people have come today with families whose life revolves around the game.
“Now, we get to give them something to look forward to and for me that’ s why we win to create some memories. it was unbelievable.”
