Abbas Miski will feature for Wigan Warriors this weekend, head coach Matt Peet has revealed.
Miski sat out of the club’s final game of the regular season with a knee issue, which he has been carrying throughout the campaign. Of course his absence sparked some concern among Wigan fans that the Cherry and Whites would have to progress through their play-off campaign without the winger.
Peet moved to allay such fears on the night Wigan lifted the League Leaders’ Shield, outlining his belief that Miski would be fit enough to play in the semi-final. And, with the clash against Leigh Leopards now just a few days away, the head coach has doubled down on Miski’s fitness by confirming he will be involved on Saturday evening.
“He’ll play,” Peet told the press in the build up to the game at the Brick Community Stadium.
“I think we’re in a good place. We got some good training done last week, managed to rest up over the weekend, enjoy the other games, and attack another week’s training.
“We can’t complain, it’s a privilege to be in the semi-final and it’s one we’re looking forward to against a great team in Leigh so I think we’re in a good spot.”
Leigh will make the short journey to Wigan Warriors with their tails up after overpowering Salford Red Devils last week in their Super League eliminator and Peet expects Adrian Lam’s side to be firing on all cylinders.
“I’m expecting an intense game,” he added.
“They’re a well-balanced team, and ever since Lammy took over there, they play with the right level of physicality and they’ve got some class ball players and great athletes.
“Semi-finals are always huge challenges. Both teams will have that desperation to try to get what they feel they deserve, and it brings pressure, an intensity, and I think the quality of Leigh only heightens that level of competition.”
