Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has confirmed a double injury blow for his side with one man set for a lengthy lay-off.
Peet welcomed back Ethan Havard in the win over Catalans Dragons with the England prop playing his first minutes of the season, however, Wigan have now been dealt a double blow on the back of that win.
Havard played his first minutes since the end-of-season internationals in a very welcome boost but Wigan have now confirmed that one of the men who had stepped up in his place will now miss around 12 weeks.
That man is Sam Walters with the former Leeds Rhinos forward confirmed to have broken his leg, meaning he’ll miss most of the upcoming three months.
Walters has shifted from the second-row to prop this year and had great success too, becoming one of Wigan’s most reliable forwards.
Peet had revealed that he and Luke Thompson, who both left the field in the victory over Catalans, were injury concerns but couldn’t provide further details.

He has now given those further details speaking in his presser ahead of Wigan Warriors’ Round 13 clash against Salford Red Devils.
Peet confirmed: “Sam [Walters] has fractured his fibula, so he’ll be out for an extended period. You’re probably looking at the 12-weeks mark.”
As for Thompson, who left the field and didn’t return, Peet said: “Luke [Thompson] has broken a few ribs. It’s going to be guided by his own pain and his recovery from that.”
Thompson missed game time recently and is expected to be one of the starting props that Shaun Wane calls upon for the Ashes.
With a clash against struggling Salford on Friday and a bye next week on account of the Challenge Cup Final, Thompson will have at least two weeks off as he recovers.
