Matt Peet explains Wigan’s defeat to Leeds Rhinos

Wigan Warriors coach

Wigan Warriors are undoubtedly a top team so the fact they lost the second half against Leeds Rhinos yesterday 34-4 is worrying indeed as they suffered a 40-18 defeat to the 12 man Rhinos.

Speaking after the game Matt Peet explained what went wrong and it was as simple to him as being below par as he branded it “completely unacceptable.”

“It was completely unacceptable in the second half. We will all be equally embarrassed at that,” he said.

“It was way below par from all of us.

“I thought in the first half we did some decent things but we always knew that Leeds were always capable of doing something the way they play and the commitment they’ve got and it turned pretty ugly.

“I wasn’t shocked by Leeds and their quality, I was shocked by our mentality. We started chasing points and it went from bad to worse.

“I commend Leeds, some of their tries was outstanding skill. We knew that they were capable of that though and we didn’t do enough to stop them.”

He went on to add that when they started to chase points that only made matters worse:

“I do think when you start to chase points, you give them more of a chance. They scored a couple of tries at the end where we serve up some soft ball but I think credit to them.”
