Matt Peet explains Wigan’s defeat to Catalans

Wigan Warriors coach

Matt Peet has explained what went wrong for Wigan Warriors today as they were stunned by Catalans Dragons.

Many expected a tough and tight game but the Warriors were blown away in what is perhaps the shock result of the weekend.

Speaking after the game Peet explained what went wrong.

“I thought we were particularly poor today and in a lot of areas,” he said.

“Catalans were excellent and they were clinical. They played with lots of enthusiasm. We were beaten to the punch in every area and there’s not much more to say.

“We were poor in the simple areas and our core skill let us down. And defence was sub par.

“I don’t think we’ve learned anything new today. It’s simple you win the game by kicking well, tackling well and making key decisions.

“It’s not nice to see your team stuck behind the sticks so many times when you’ve worked so hard and you know how much it means to them and they fail to play at their best.

“I think, although Catalans were excellent the ball, they were also far better defensively. So, it’s not just one area.

“The lads let themselves down. It was tough watching.”
