Wigan Warriors boss Matt Peet and Leeds Rhinos’ Brad Arthur headline the Super League Coach of the Year shortlist, with Toulouse Olympique’s Sylvain Houles the third man in contention.
Despite not making the play-offs, many will argue that Houles is a worthy winner of the prestigious award, having guided his side to an eighth-place finish after many tipped a wooden spoon for the Olympians.
Promoted at short notice and on half the funding of every other Super League club bar York, Toulouse have been a breath of fresh air in just their second-ever season in the top flight.
They’ve played an entertaining style and they do have a predominant French core of players as well. Among their big scalp wins in 2026 are victories on the road against Hull KR, whilst they also completed the double over Hull FC, racking up 10 wins across the season.

Super League awards to be streamed live
The other two men shortlisted are still in play-off contention with Wigan’s Matt Peet aiming to win the award for a second time, whilst Brad Arthur is seeking a first victory.
Leeds led Super League for so long with Arthur’s second full season in charge seeing them take significant steps forward, eventually placing second and seeing six of their players recognised in the Super League Dream Team.
As for Peet, he’s led Wigan to another domestic double and he’s seeking his tenth piece of silverware in just five years as a head coach, with the Grand Final trophy all that Wigan need to secure a second treble in three years.
He won the award in 2022, his first year in charge, but was beaten out by Willie Peters the past two years and by Adrian Lam in 2023.
The victorious coach will be crowned on Tuesday at the Rugby League Awards, which it’s been confirmed will be streamed live via the Super League YouTube channel.
