Matt Dufty’s ‘strange’ issue according to Warrington Wolves boss Daryl Powell

Warrington Wolves fullback Matt Dufty suffers from a ‘strange’ problem according to head coach Daryl Powell.

Dufty showed some brilliant touches on his debut against Huddersfield Giants, setting up two tries before being taken off with a foot injury minutes before the end.

And, Warrington have now confirmed that he will be out for a number of weeks, though Thomas Mikaele has been included in their 21-man squad for their clash against the Wigan Warriors despite going down with an injury in that loss to Huddersfield, too.

The Wolves revealed their 21-man squad yesterday:

33 Kyle Amor
5 Matty Ashton
15 Joe Bullock
9 Daryl Clark
14 Jason Clark
11 Ben Currie
17 Matt Davis
Riley Dean
20 James Harrison
12 Oliver Holmes
3 Peter Mata’utia
Thomas Mikaele
21 Greg Minikin
19 Robbie Mulhern
35 Matty Nicholson
1 Stefan Ratchford
22 Josh Thewlis
16 Danny Walker
34 Jake Wardle
7 George Williams

Dufty has signed a multi-year deal with the Cheshire club, which started immediately despite the fact that he was already under contract at former club Canterbury Bulldogs.

However, the livewire fullback decided to make the journey and join up with Daryl Powell during the second-half of the season.

And, now Powell has revealed what is actually wrong with Dufty with it being an issue that the former St George fullback has had trouble with before – though he hasn’t known what it was.

“It’s a strange one,” Powell told Wire TV.

“It’s an extra bone, it’s something from birth that he never knew about, so he’s had a little bit of trouble with that foot before but it’s something he never knew was there.

“It’s something that most of us don’t have – it’s an extra bone and it’s that what’s caused him trouble.

“For him, it’s good to find out about it as he’s had trouble with it before.”

Warrington go up against the Wigan Warriors tomorrow night, live on Sky Sports.
