Matt Adamson played with some of the greatest players ever including the greatest in Super League as he played with Leeds Rhinos at the start of the Golden Generation.
But when asked which Leeds player he feels was the best of the Golden Generation, he told Serious About Rugby League:
“It’s a tough question, I don’t want to insult anyone but what Kevin Sinfield has done as a player and as a human being, how can you not say Kevin Sinfield. No disrespect to anyone else, Sinfield ticked all the boxes and it was really balanced by his leadership.”
Meanwhile, he said that former Leeds, Wigan Warriors and St Helens man Gary Connolly is one of the best he has ever played with:
“Gary Connolly was one of the best players I ever played with, he was a superstar and a Champion bloke.
“Brad Fittler is a good mate of mine but I always saw Laurie Daley. He was a too competitor, he was physically and put his body on the line at Origin level you have to do that. I admired him as a kid and then I was up against him and it was an honour.
“Gary Connolly is not far behind, there would only be a few players in front of him.”
But he clearly thought highly of plenty of his Leeds teammates as he tried to tempt the likes of Danny McGuire to the NRL and said others could have made the move themselves:
“I did try and get Danny McGuire to Canberra, I think he would have really excelled in the NRL. Many have come to Australia and been highly successful and I think Danny would have been great.
“I tried to get Kallum Watkins to Melbourne Storm and Ryan Bailey. So, I certainly had faith in those guys that they could have competed quite comfortably at that level as could Sinny and Mark Calderwood and Chev Walker.”
