Wigan Warriors have won the race to sign Tyler Dupree with the former Salford Red Devils prop being a player who had been in high demand this season, with bids for the England international coming from Hull KR previously whilst Leeds Rhinos could have also been interested given they’re set to lose Sam Walters to Wigan.
Ultimately though Dupree has signed on the dotted line with Wigan and could even be set to feature on Saturday against Leigh Leopards.
He isn’t the only player making a move in this deal though as it’s been confirmed that Brad Singleton will head the other way and join Salford immediately.
Singleton had been scheduled to sign with Salford for 2024 but as part of the Dupree deal he will now link up Paul Rowley’s side a few months early, as the Red Devils look to scrape back into the playoffs.
Wigan confirmed Dupree’s acquisition stating that he joins “with immediate effect on a four-year contract for an undisclosed transfer fee.”
Matt Peet had nothing but praise for Singleton who will now leave after almost three years at the DW Stadium.
“Brad joined us in September 2020 in the dark days of COVID, and led a young forward pack to a League Leaders’ Shield and Grand Final,” Peet told the Wigan Warriors website.
“Brad had agreed to join Salford after this season and we felt that with us wanting Tyler for the next few years, it made sense to make the switch now. Throughout his time at Wigan, he has been a quality professional and teammate, and a pleasure to coach.
“I wish him and his family all the best for the future.”
As for Singleton’s new club, Salford announced the deal themselves via their website with the 30-year-old set to link up with the team immediately, and agreeing to a deal until the end of 2025.
Director of Rugby & Operations, Ian Blease, has said: “We are delighted to secure a player of Brad’s calibre for the next few years.
“Brad knows what it takes to win the major honours and will bring invaluable experience to the dressing room.
“He is a hard-working individual, who will reinforce our forward pack for the remainder of this season, 2024, and beyond.
“I am excited to see him pull on the Red Devils jersey for the first time!”
