Mark Percival makes decision on St Helens future following transfer speculation

St Helens

Mark Percival has signed a contract extension to remain with St Helens beyond the end of the season.

Percival was off-contract this year and there had been plenty of speculation about his future with the centre reportedly falling out with the club during negotiations.

However, the England international has now penned a one-year extension to ensure he will be wearing the Red V until the end of the 2027 campaign at least.

The 31-year-old has made 266 appearances for the Saints over the course of his career, scoring 129 tries along the way. And, having made his debut for the club as a youngster back in 2013, the new deal will take him into his 15th season at the club.

“I have always wanted to be at this club, and now I’ve got another year’s extension to keep playing here, it feels unbelievable,” Percival said after bringing an end to the speculation about his future.

“I love this club, so I’m glad to get this deal over the line and get it done.

“I’ve been lucky enough to win things, but I want to win more. I want to be involved in big games and win big games for Saints because I’ve had that feeling, and it is honestly the best feeling in the world.

“I have that competitive edge in me, and it’s one of the main reasons I want to stay, because I want to win and give everything I’ve got, like I always have done.

“This is home, and I’ll keep giving all I’ve got until I’ve got nothing left.”

Head coach Paul Rowley added: “It is great news that Mark will be staying with the club for a further 12 months beyond the end of this year.

“What he brings to the team, both on and off the field, is immeasurable. I can say on behalf of all the players and coaching staff, we are absolutely delighted that Percy will remain a Saint, and we look forward to a successful year this year and beyond.”
