Mark Applegarth provides huge update on Luke Gale

Luke Gale was a major signing for Wakefield Trinity as they hoped to turn their season around.

The former Man of Steel, Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers and Hull FC star joined from Keighley Cougars but is still yet to debut after a groin injury.

However, he is finally set to feature this week against Hull KR.

“I don’t want to tempt fate but Luke Gale will play tomorrow night unless there is some sort of major incident between now and tomorrow,” Mark Applegarth said on BBC Radio Leeds.

“He’s got through training all week, it’s been great having him out there organising that team. It’s been a pleasure to work with him. I know it’s been frustrating for himself, for fans and me as a coach, but at the end of the day it couldn’t help being injured.”

Applegarth also opened up on Gale’s injury:

“It was just a bit of a freak injury that happened and, you know, he seems to be fully over that and as long as there’s no like freak incident, he’ll be playing tomorrow night against KR, yeah. I wish now I got a party popper ready for that announcement.

“Not too soon, there’s time between now and kick-off. As long as there’s no hidden surprises, he’s got through training all week, we’ve put him through quite a few rigorous tests. He’s feeling happy, he’s looking good, looking sharp, so he should be in there.”
