Mark Applegarth gives injury update on star player

Wakefield Trinity today defeated Leeds Rhinos in a festive friendly at Headingley Stadium.

A key to any pre-season game is coming away from the game without any injuries and some Wakefield fans may have been concerned over whether Max Jowitt was badly hurt.

After the game, Mark Applegarth gave an update:

“Nothing major he got a bump. I was going to bring Lee Gaskell off just before he got it and move Max to halfback just in case we ever need that combo but he just has a bruise that is causing pain down his side.

“Everyone seems alright which is the main thing you want. A couple of bumps and bruises but nothing that will see anyone out long term.”

He also spoke about Liam Hood’s injury as he praised new signing Morgan Smith at nine:

“He plays some great eyes up rugby does Morgan, he is definitely in the mix with Mason Lino and Lee Gaskell for Round One.

“There’s a difficult choice there. He put his hand up to play nine with Liam Hood injured.

“Liam Hood has had a calf strain and Bowes has also had a bit of a strain up until two three days ago so Morgan put his hand up to play nine, so to play nine for 40 minutes and then 40 at halfback, I think it shows what he can do.”
