Wakefield Trinity are not only gearing up for 2023, but have also put plans in place for 2024 by signing star player Liam Hood to a new deal today which ensures that the former Leeds Rhinos and Leigh Leopards hooker will remain at the club until the end of 2024.

After securing Hood’s future, Mark Applegarth explained the reasoning behind the new deal for the player who is set to return from injury before their opening round fixture against Catalans Dragons.

Applegarth told the club website: “I’m really pleased to have this deal agreed as Liam is a key member of our squad.

“He is a top-quality hooker who adds so much to our team when he’s on the field. He is a great leader off the field too and I’m delighted he’s agreed to stay for an extra year.”

Meanwhile, Hood himself explained that the process behind the deal was “ongoing” for some time as he tipped the club for a big year in 2023.

“I’m delighted to be staying at Wakefield for an extra year,” said Hood.

“It’s been an ongoing process with Michael and Mark over the last few weeks and I’m now pleased it’s sorted so I can focus on a big year ahead.
