Marcus Griffiths set to officiate days after vile abuse whilst Chris Kendall takes marquee matchup

The climax of the season is approaching and after Wigan Warriors impressive victory over Catalans Dragons last week there is still a key race for the top two, whilst a loss for Leeds Rhinos saw their playoff hopes dwindle.

Friday marks the start of round 24 of the 2023 Super League campaign and there’s plenty to be decided all across the table, be it the race for the League Leaders Shield, the epic fight for the final playoff spots in fifth and sixth, or the relegation battle between Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity.

There are huge implications for each and every win, particularly given that sixth and seventh placed Salford and Hull KR are level on points and points difference.

Both sides play on Friday night with Rovers hosting top of the table Catalans, whilst Salford travel to local rivals Wigan. The other fixture on Friday sees Leigh host Huddersfield with the Leopards aiming to get back in the win column.

The match officials for these games and the other three fixtures in the round have been confirmed with Chris Kendall set to take charge of the televised clash between Wigan and Salford.

Ben Thaler will take charge at Craven Park whereas Liam Moore will operate the whistle for Leigh and Huddersfield’s clash with brother Aaron serving as touch judge.

Saturday’s games see Hull FC host Leeds Rhinos which will be officiated by Tom Grant, whilst the televised game of Warrington Wolves versus Castleford Tigers is set to be overseen by Jack Smith.

Sunday’s game sees Wakefield Trinity face in form St Helens with Trinity’s hopes of a great escape looking slimmer and slimmer, but in charge for them will be Marcus Griffiths.

Griffiths takes charge of Sunday’s game just days after he revealed the horrific homophobic abuse and death threats he had received, something that the RFL have condemned and are looking into.
