Marc Sneyd makes Warrington Wolves title claim and explains ‘awkward’ Salford Red Devils exit

- 21/03/2025 - Rugby League - Betfred Super League Round 5 - St Helens v Warrington Wolves - The Totally Wicked Stadium, St Helens, England - Marc Sneyd of Warrington

New Warrington Wolves signing Marc Sneyd has spoken about his move from Salford Red Devils and given his verdict on Wire’s chances this year, stating that he can’t see why it won’t finally be Warrington’s year.

Sneyd has been at the club just under a fortnight, joining Wire just ahead of their Challenge Cup clash against Widnes Vikings, a game that came too soon for him.

Instead, he made his debut on Friday night as he earned the Man of the Match award after picking up an assist and kicking three from three in the 14-12 win over St Helens.

Speaking to the BBC Radio Merseyside ahead of Warrington’s game against Leeds Rhinos on Friday night, Sneyd was asked if he thinks the club can win the Super League title this season, to which he said: “I don’t see why not, I honestly don’t.

“I think the league this year could be potentially one of the best it’s been. For the most, anybody can beat anybody on their day.

“I feel like whichever team is the most consistent this year and turns up on the day the most will probably end up winning it but I don’t think it’ll be as black and white as it usually is.”

Warrington Wolves’ Marc Sneyd on George Williams and ‘awkward’ Salford Red Devils exit

Warrington Wolves have made it to the Grand Final previously but fallen short each time, however, with their newly-established half-back pairing and full-back Matt Dufty, they boast the England captain and two of last year’s Man of Steel nominees.

On playing alongside George Williams, Sneyd said:  “It’s always good to have that kind of six next to me. I play the game the way I play the game so it allows him to do what he wants really.

“What he’s known for is that magic in a game and being that star on the pitch so hopefully I can come and do my job and free up George and (Matt) Dufty to do their jobs.”

Williams was the man who latched onto Sneyd’s kick last week to give Wire a lead that they would not lose although Sneyd explained that he’s still yet to fully grasp the terminology for all of the set plays, something which didn’t seem to prove an issue last week.

Wire face Leeds Rhinos on Friday, a team that Sneyd has already faced this season whilst playing for Salford, whom he left two weeks ago, and he reflected on that exit as well, stating: “I got an opportunity and I decided to run with it.”

On that exit, he said: “I do everything myself, I don’t have an agent  so it can be fairly awkward but everybody at Salford I’ve got a lot of respect for.

“I was really open with everything. Nothing was done behind anybody’s back. I spoke openly with Rowls (head coach Paul Rowley), Chris Irwin (chief executive) and the lads on a daily basis about it.

“It was one of those and the situation was what it was. It was a tough situation and I had a decision to make and I made it.”
