Marc Sneyd hailed as Warrington Wolves boss comments on veteran’s time at club and potential return to squad

Marc Sneyd’s Warrington Wolves career isn’t over yet, with Sam Burgess believing the veteran still has a big part to play.

Sneyd will depart the Halliwell Jones Stadium at the end of the season, bringing a year-and-a-half spell at the club to a close.

His future has already been confirmed, and he will re-join Championship side Salford RLFC for the third time in his career in what is the biggest signing the club have done in their new era under Ryan Brierley.

However, his career in the Primrose and Blue isn’t over yet, with the 35-year-old tipped to make a real impact before the season’s end.

Burgess has opted to use young half-backs Ewan Irwin and Leon Hayes over the past few months, leaving Sneyd to sit in and amongst the substitutes.

However, as the games start to ramp up in both stature and intensity, it will be the experienced players that Warrington need to call upon, and there aren’t many current players more well-versed in play-off rugby than the three-time Lance Todd Trophy winner.

The Warrington head coach was recently asked about the half-back’s current situation, and how much of an impact he has made since his arrival in March 2025.

“I’m happy for ‘ Sneydy’, he’s one of those guys who could play until he’s 45, he’s that clever,” Burgess replied.

“Obviously we’ve got a lot of respect for Marc and what he’s done in his career, what he’s brought here to Warrington. For the period of time he’s been here, he’s been really important.

“We had a bit of issues last year with our spine, and Leon not making it back, so he came and did a great job and almost got us home at Wembley that day.

“He’s a great fella, his attitude around the place has been good. We’re backing the youth at the moment, putting some time into Leon and Ewan, he’s all for that as well. He’ll have a great impact at Salford again, no doubt about it.”

Burgess went on to admit that the 18 months Sneyd has been around at the club feels a lot longer than that, and whilst he is out of the picture at the moment, there could still be a chance for him to make a real impact, should the youthful duo need a helping hand from a more experienced playmaker.

He continued: “I think it shows he’s fitted into the place quite well, the fans have really embraced him.

“He’s got an awesome family, he’s an all-in guy, he’s been all-in since the moment we got him here, so he’s been great for us.

“He might have a part to play later in the year, we don’t know. He’s keeping himself ready to go.”
