Luke Robinson gives update on Ricky Leutele’s Huddersfield Giants future

Last night as Huddersfield defeated Leeds Rhinos 30-16, Ricky Leutele was outstanding.

Whenever he received the ball he looked like a threat and that threat materialised twice as he produced a lovely finish to score the game’s opening try and later conjured up a silky assist to set up Jake Wardle for a score.

It’s common knowledge that he’s in the last year of his deal and Huddersfield have made him an offer with Ian Watson confirming as such a few weeks back.

However, Leutele is yet to sign on for 2023 and beyond, but assistant coach Luke Robinson gave an update on the situation as best as he could as he filled in for Ian Watson who was isolating during yesterday’s game.

“You’d have to ask Watto that,” Robinson joked, “Ricky has been fabulous hasn’t he?

“Fingers crossed something can be done. From my point of view, I’d like to keep him. Obviously there’s a lot of different parts when you’re in a salary capped sport.

“He’s a really good player to have around the place.”

He also commented that from his perspective that has only been positive signals thrown Huddersfield’s way from Leutele and his management but at the end of the day he simply has his “fingers crossed” that a deal can be done.
