Luke Robinson confirms additional member joining Huddersfield Giants coaching staff

Huddersfield Giants boss Luke Robinson adds coach to backroom staff roster

Huddersfield Giants boss Luke Robinson has shared that he’s added an additional member to his coaching staff, confirming the news during his post-match press conference following the match against Leigh Leopards.

It seems that former Hull KR and Castleford Tigers centre Jake Webster has joined the Giants coaching team until the end of the season to help in training Huddersfield’s outside backs, in particular.

The Leopards match was meant to be his first official game as part of the new set-up, but due to traffic on the M62, he was stuck in his car.

In his press conference, Robinson said: “It’s no secret really. There are only me and (Liam) Finny in the first-team staff who are coaches.

“Finn’s also the reserve team coach, so it can sometimes spread us a little bit thin in comparison to a lot of other clubs.”

Webster continues at Keighley despite new Huddersfield Giants coaching role

It was only in February that Webster resigned from his head coach role at Keighley Cougars, citing ‘negative press, my mental health and wellbeing needs’ before moving into a full-time role in the commercial department instead.

However, it looks like he may have been missing working in a coaching capacity, and a chance with the Giants looks to have reignited his passion.

Huddersfield Giants head coach Robinson shared that Webster will continue wth the Cougars and the two clubs have come to an agreement.

He added: “The club’s been really good, Jake’s been coming in voluntarily.

“He’s still got a role with Keighley, but he’s coming in and helping out with training, doing a lot of work with the outside backs, and generally just being a help.

“We’ve managed to come up with a bit of a solution where he can come in and continue that for the rest of the year, which is going to be a very big help, not only to me, but to Finny and everybody else. It was going to be his first game today.”

The motorway standstill nearly affected the Giants playing group as halfback Tui Lolohea was also on his way to the game, just a few cars in front of Webster.

Luckily, the club managed to find a solution by arranging a taxi for Lolohea and young back-rower Jack Billington staying in the halfback’s car on the motorway.
