Luke Gale’s season could be over

5th March 2020, Emerald Headingley, Leeds, England; Betfred Super League, Leeds Rhinos v Toronto Wolfpack : Luke Gale and Alex Mellor of Leeds Rhinos celebrate try.

Luke Gale could miss the rest of the Super League season through injury.

That is the awful news emanating from the West Yorkshire club, with scans revealing that the halfback sustained a grade three medial knee ligament injury in the Rhinos’ 46-10 demolition of Leigh at the weekend.

Six weeks is the minimum number of weeks Gale could be out for, but with Leeds’ last game of the 2021 season coming on September 17, it’s unlikely the England international will play again – unless the Rhinos go far in the play-offs.

Gale enjoyed a stellar 2020 season, guiding Leeds to Challenge Cup glory, but has found this season particularly difficult.

He broke a thumb early on in 2021, has been suspended twice and been stripped of the captaincy in acrimonious circumstances.

Gale has played 22 times for Leeds in two seasons after joining from Castleford following the end of the 2019 Super League season on a three-year deal.
