Luke Gale will NOT debut next week either – here’s why

Former Hull FC halfback Luke Gale playing against Hull KR

Luke Gale has missed out on his Wakefield Trinity debut tonight.

He missed last week’s clash with Warrington Wolves with Mark Applegarth originally saying he wanted to give the former Man of Steel more time to adjust.

This week Gale was again named in the squad but has again been left out.

Applegarth did warn before the game that Morgan Smith had a good chance of keeping his spot after last week’s performance but speaking on Sky Sports Luke Gale revealed himself he is carrying an injury.

He said: “The injury is more last week really, it was a tweak in my groin so I was no good for last week.

“If I’d have pushed it then maybe I’d have made it back but it’s a quick turnaround and it would also be disrespectful to Morgan Smith who I thought was our best player last week, he was outstanding along with a couple of others.

“It’s a bit of both, as I say I thought Morgan was great and hopefully he can do the same tonight.”

Gale also gave his assessment of Wakefield since he has joined: “Obviously it’s been a real short period, probably ten days or so, but it’s been real positive.

“The training has been of a real high quality, it’s been intense and the skill has been great and we took that into Warrington.

“Obviously the sending off kind of means heads went down and we’d been doing it tough, the last ten minutes the boys were spent but I thought it was a real positive.

“Training again this week the boys have been great and spirits are high, we’re going to come and bring it to Hull FC.”

Fans have been eagerly waiting his debut for a number of weeks now and they will have to wait no matter his fitness.

This is because next week Wakefield take on Leigh Leopards in the Challenge Cup and Gale is cup tied from his days at Keighley Cougars playing in their 34-16 defeat to Batley Bulldogs.
