London Broncos sign international hooker after successful trial

London Broncos head coach Mike Eccles Championship

London Broncos have signed a Welsh international ahead of the 2025 season following a successful trial period with the club.

Mike Eccles has faced the tough task of rebuilding his squad after it was decimated following their relegation from Super League with only a few players re-signing and committing for 2025.

Since then the club have been actively recruiting with Eccles revealing that they have had a number of triallists in at training with the hopes of unearthing potential squad members.

That has now been the case with London Broncos confirming the signing of Welsh international Curtis Davies with the 27-year-old having trained with the club since the start of pre-season.

Davies has spent his career playing in both the Championship and League One with a brief stint in France with Villeneuve but he brings plenty of experience, including at the international level having been capped seven times by Wales – including at the 2022 World Cup.

Davies debuted for Halifax Panthers in 2018 before spending the off-season with Villeneuve. Upon his return to England, he had spells with Cumbrian sides Workington and Whitehaven and spent the most recent season with Dewsbury Rams.

Despite the Rams suffering relegation in 2024, Davies played 22 games and scored three tries and he has clearly impressed those at London Broncos enough to earn his one-year deal.

The Broncos confirmed his signing via a club statement which read: “London Broncos are delighted to announce the signing of Welsh hooker Curtis Davies following a successful trial period.

“The 27-year-old Welsh international has been training with the club since the start of pre-season and has impressed Mike Eccles enough to earn a contract for the season.”

Speaking on his move, Davies said: “I’ve enjoyed the training & being around the boys so far.

“The club has made it really easy to settle in and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity & the year ahead.”

London Broncos will face Goole Vikings in Round Two of the Challenge Cup in under a fortnight’s time. The winner of that tie will host Wakefield Trinity in Round Three.
