London Broncos set incredible record as PNG star scores hat-trick in 18-try win

London Broncos have broken a number of club records as well as an all-time rugby league record in their incredible 106-18 win.

Hosting last year’s League One champions North Wales Crusaders, London showed their class as they ran in 18 tries to score 100 points for the first time in the club’s history.

Their 106-18 win is therefore a club record win but it’s also a scoreline that makes some rugby league history with the result marking the most points scored ever in the sport’s top two flights since the creation of rugby league way back in 1895.

The previous record was 106 points, with Castleford Tigers’ 106-0 win over Rochdale the previous marker. At one point, London led 106-6 but it was actually North Wales who scored the final two tries with former Super League man Greg Eden completing his hat-trick.

He wasn’t the only hat-trick scorer though as London full-back and Papua New Guinean star Morea Morea crossed over three times, with his fellow countrymen Gairo Voro and Finley Glare also bagging braces.

Jimmy Meadows was another who scored two tries but perhaps more impressive was the fact that he converted 17 of the 18 attempts meaning he hauled in a club-record 42 points.

Full list of London Broncos try-scorers: Epel Kapinas, Jimmy Meadows (2), Jack Croft, Gairo Voro (2), Neil Tchamambe (2), Morea Morea (3), Finley Glare (2), Emarly Bitungane, Ben Hursey-Hord, Luke Smith, Liam Tindall, Sadiq Adebiyi

London Broncos boss reacts to record win

Speaking post-match on London Broncos’ YouTube channel, head coach Jason Demetriou was understandably full of praise for his side’s performance.

He said: “I thought we’ve started to show some signs that we’re finding our rhythm with the footy. I thought the first 30 minutes, we were pretty electric, we were fast and we were aggressive with how we played.

“We got the fruits from it but I was more impressed with how we stayed at it. We could have easily put our heads down but we were pretty ruthless across the park.”

Despite a record win, Demetriou did pick out some issues in typical coach’s fashion: “There were two tries from intercepts which you never want to see but I can’t be too disappointed with that.”
