London Broncos owner Grant Wechsel has confirmed the club has been unsuccessful in its push for Super League next year. The Broncos were considered to be one of the favourites to win promotion through the independent panel, but it seems as though they have just missed out this time around.
The two successful teams, which will make Super League a 14-team competition will be announced this morning with Championship Grand Finalists York Knights and Toulouse Olympique in the frame and set to join Bradford Bulls, who were promoted to the top flight on Thursday.
It’s been an up and down 12 months for the Broncos following their relegation from Super League in 2024 but under the ownership of Darren Lockyer and his business partner Wechsel, with Gary Hetherington involved at the club too, the future still looks bright for London.
They’ve recruited well for 2026 already with Reagan Campbell-Gillard and Siliva Havili committed to the club for next year and more players are on the way.
But, it seems as though they’ll have to wait until this time next year for the opportunity to make the step up.
“The club’s current grading is a reflection of where the club is at,” Wechsel told the Daily Telegraph Down Under.
“While we clearly see the path forward and know we have the right ingredients on and off the field to revitalise the club, the gap was obviously too far for the independent panel to promote us.
“Darren and I are very determined people and won’t blink at the challenge in front of us. In fact we are more determined than ever to turn the London Broncos in to a powerhouse of rugby league in the UK.
“We need the people of London to get behind us now and come on the ride with us.”
