London Broncos loan Wigan Warriors pair as eight trialists named in Challenge Cup squad

London Broncos Mike Eccles - Wigan Warriors pair join

London Broncos have taken young Wigan Warriors pair Kian McDermott and Lukas Mason on a short-term loan. The youngsters have joined the Championship side for five weeks and look set to make their debut for the club on Saturday as the Broncos host Goole Vikings in the second round of the Challenge Cup.

The Broncos currently have 13 players contracted to the club, but the additions of McDermott and Mason will help to ensure they have enough depth, while also providing both players with valuable experience away from the Brick Community Stadium.

The forwards were both promoted to the first-team picture from the academy over the off-season and they’ll both hope to pick up some first-team minutes over the next few weeks, with London hopeful of progressing in the Cup before they start their league season on February 16 at Bradford Bulls.

McDermott is a prop, who has been with Wigan Warriors since joining as a scholar in 2021, while Mason plays as a second rower and counts Siddal, Orrell St James and Clock Face Miners as his former clubs. Both players are 19 and they were involved in last season’s Academy Grand Final win.

“This is an amazing opportunity for Kian and Lukas to progress their journey,” Wigan’s transition coach John Duffy told the club website.

“They’ll work with a really good coach in Mike Eccles and will have the opportunity to play in a number of games against top Championship opposition over the coming four weeks.”

They’ve been named in Mike Eccles’ 21-man squad for the clash with Goole, which features eight trialists. Chris Ball, Leighton Ball, Tyler Kearsey, Charlie Randall, Matt Ross, Jack Ryan, Aaron Small and Jerome Yates will all be hoping to feature as they look to secure a contract with the Broncos.

New signings Luke Polselli, Curtis Davies and Connor O’Beirne will be involved, too, at Rosslyn Park as the Broncos strive to set up a third round clash with Super League Wakefield Trinity.

London Broncos’ 21-man squad to face Goole: Sadiq Adebiyi, Chris Ball (T), Leighton Ball (T), Lewis Bienek, Curtis Davies, Ben Hursey-Hord, Tyler Kearsey (T), Will Lovell, Lukas Mason, Kian McDermott, Jensen Monk, Connor O’Beirne, Luke Polselli, Charlie Randall (T), Matt Ross (T), Jack Ryan (T), Aaron Small (T), Jerome Yates (T), Alex Walker, Huw Worthington, Sam Winney.
