London Broncos land new recruit in much-needed boost

London Broncos' Mike Eccles

London Broncos have completed the signing of Frenchman Christopher Hellec ahead of the new Championship season.

The Broncos are in need of numbers following a huge exodus of players over the off-season, with as many as eight trialists being named in the club’s squad to face Goole Vikings in the Challenge Cup last weekend.

The addition of Hellec certainly goes a long way towards filling the holes in Mike Eccles’ side, though, with the 29-year-old offering an experienced option across the backline. Hellec is versatile and he can play in a number of positions throughout the spine of the team, while his ability from the kicking tee will come in handy, too.

The move represents Hellec’s first away from his native country having represented the lines of Albi and Saint Gaudens in recent seasons, where he touched down on a regular basis.

“I’m so happy to be joining London Broncos for the upcoming season,” Hellec said after becoming the latest man to commit to the Broncos for the new season. “I can’t wait to meet all my new teammates and you supporters.

“I hope we make a great and successful season so let’s go! Up the Broncos!”

London look to be on the verge of fresh investment which is needed following David Hughes’ decision to step down from his position at the club and put the club up for sale.

However, the club’s season started with disappointment last week as the club were beaten on home soil by Goole Vikings, who were playing their first ever competitive game as a professional outfit.

The loss certainly raised eyebrows with London missing out on the chance to host Super League side Wakefield Trinity in the next round of the Challenge Cup.
