London Broncos have been handed a double boost as two of the club’s stars have re-signed after their Super League relegation.
After suffering relegation from Super League due to their lowly IMG standing, London Broncos were left with a squad of just three players but the capital’s club have slowly been re-signing and building up their squad.
Earlier this week they confirmed their first overseas signing after the relegation with Australian half-back Connor O’Beirne becoming the seventh man to be locked in for 2025, pending Visa approval.
Now, two more players have signed on but they will be a lot more familiar names for London Broncos fans as club stalwarts Will Lovell and Alex Walker have penned new deals.
Captain Will Lovell now heads into his 12th season with the club whilst full-back Walker, who debuted for the club in 2014 and ranks fifth all-time for appearances made at the club, has also re-signed.
London Broncos tie down legendary duo
With so few players tied down prior to today’s announcement, one of the biggest things that London could target was experience and in Lovell and Walker they’ve got that.
The pair sit fourth and fifth for all-time appearances with the club, sharing a whopping 343 between them whilst Walker also features at fifth for most tries scored.
They become the ninth and tenth players signed for the upcoming campaign, highlighting the amount of work still to be done, but getting two players of such prestige at the club is a big deal.
Announcing Walker, a statement read: “London Broncos are delighted to announce Alex Walker has agreed to extend his contract at the club for the 2025 season.
“The 29-year-old is a product of the club’s academy and has established himself as a club legend since making his debut back in 2014.”
Speaking on his deal, the Scotland international said: “I’m really glad to be staying at this club, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be!”
As for Lovell, the club confirmed: “London Broncos are delighted to announce Will Lovell has agreed to extend his stay at the club for at least one more season.
“Now 31-years-old Lovell made his debut in 2012 and now moves into his 12th season with the club.
“Lovell has captained the side since 2020 and led the club back to Super League with the Grand Final win over Toulouse in 2023.
“During the 2024 Super League season Lovell was one of three Broncos to play in every single league fixture and was ranked second in the competition for the number of tackles completed.”
Speaking on his new deal, Lovell said: “Through all the adversity the club has been through over the past year I’m happy to add my experience to the playing group for the 2025 season.
“I can’t wait to get back out there in front of the London fans and once again push for Super League.”
