The Magic Weekend 2023 was brilliant.
Salford Red Devils and Hull KR produced a classic clash, Catalans Dragons stunned Wigan Warriors and right now Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers are engaged in a tight affair.
On Sunday we saw Leigh Leopards and St Helens produce statement wins over Wakefield Trinity and Huddersfield Giants prior to an intriguing clash between Hull FC and Warrington Wolves.
For much of this year it has been questioned whether the 2023 Magic Weekend will be the last event of its kind.
There is still hope with recent reports saying that the Magic Weekend could stay at least for 2024.
RL Commercial’s Rhodri Jones confirmed that the problem is the fact that IMG want to move the Challenge Cup Final forward leaving the Magic Weekend’s future up in the air as it would likely require a new stadium with it having to take place during the Premier League season.
However, the local council in Newcastle are keen on keeping the event according to the Chronicle Live.
They believe this year’s was again a resounding success and are subsequently keen on keeping the event but a problem still faces the event if it is moved to during the Premier League season.
Nonetheless, the council are “fully committed” to hosting the event in 2024.
