In the rugby league family, there’s one family that everyone will support: Lindsey Burrow and her family.
It’s close to a year since her husband and Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow passed after losing his battle with motor neurone disease in June 2024.
Since his diagnosis, rugby league has come together to support the Burrow family, from attending games in honour of Rob to supporting Kevin Sinfield’s marathon efforts.
Now Lindsey will undertake a similar challenge herself as she will run two marathons in two days for two incredible causes.
Those two marathons will be the London Marathon, where she will run alongside her brother Mark, on 27th April and the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon on 11th May.
The pair will be raising funds for Leeds Rhinos Foundation as well as Leeds Hospitals Charity’s fundraising appeal for the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease, a charity of which she is a patron of.
Speaking on why she will continue to fundraise in her husband’s memory, she said: “I know that Rob would have wanted me to continue to raise awareness and funds for the causes close to both of our hearts.
“I have seen first-hand the incredible work of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and been closely involved with the Rob Burrow Centre for MND appeal since it launched.
“As someone who only ran their first marathon in 2023, I never imagined I would be running two marathons in a matter of weeks, but I wanted to take on a challenge that would push me both physically and mentally.
“I feel excited and a little nervous, but I know that I can complete the challenge, especially with the knowledge that I’m raising money for two charities that will make a difference to so many people.”
Lindsey has already helped to raise tonnes of money for both causes after running the inaugural Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in 2023 as well as the Yorkshire Marathon last year.
She will also be promoting her new book, Take Care: A Memoir of Love, Family & Never Giving Up, at Waterstones Leeds on Thursday 6th March at 7pm and will be in conversation with Barrie McDermott
