Lewis Dodd finds new club as Super League team announce signing

NRL

Catalans Dragons have announced the signing of former St Helens man Lewis Dodd ahead of the 2026 Super League season.

Dodd has penned a one-year deal with the Dragons and it comes after being released from the remainder of his contract by South Sydney Rabbitohs last week. The half-back had a torrid year in the NRL after joining Souths from Saints for 2025, making just six appearances for the club.

Of those six outings just three were starts and one was in his preferred scrum-half role as he failed to shine under the guidance of Wayne Bennett. As such, the half-back was informed that he had no future at the club and following the completion of the season, his contract was terminated to allow him to move on.

Catalans are the team who have taken him on and they’ll be hoping the 23-year-old can rediscover the type of form that saw him land a move to the NRL in the first place. Dodd can expect to play alongside Toby Sexton next season, with the Australian joining from Canterbury Bulldogs.

“After speaking with Joel and the staff about the vision and direction the owner and the team have for the club, I knew straight away it was something I wanted to be apart of,” Dodd said on the move.

“The ambition and belief within the group really stood out to me and I can’t wait to get started at Catalans.

“I’ve seen first hand how passionate and loyal the fans are. The atmosphere they create is something special, and I’m really looking forward to running out in front of them and giving everything I’ve got.

“The expectations here are clear, to compete for Super League titles and Challenge Cups. That’s exactly the type of challenge that excites me. And I’m determined to play my part in helping the club achieve the success it deserves.”

Speaking on the move, head coach Joel Tomkins said: “Lewis is a great fit for what we want to build at the club. Still young in his career and motivated to achieve success with the Dragons, his combination with the rest of our spine players will be a huge asset to us.

“After speaking to Lewis, it was clear that he wants to work hard, earn the respect of his teammates and take his game to the next level which is exactly what we want from our new recruits.”
