When the England squad was named earlier in the year, there were a few groans of discontent – as ever.
Shaun Wane had named 30 players in his squad and there were notable absences – not least Hull FC fullback Jake Connor.
But Premier Sports pundit Leon Pryce was keen to put the spotlight on another absentee – Salford Red Devils winger Joe Burgess.
“He moved to Australia when he was the form winger in the competition and he suffered a bad ACL injury when he was there,” Pryce said on Premier Sports.”
“For me he is the outstanding english winger of Super League – he is in form and should make the World Cup squad at the end of the year
“He’s got great experience and it’s player like him who Salford will look for to get them over the line.”
Burgess has enjoyed a tremendous start to the season for the Red Devils as he looks to have a new lease of life under new head coach Paul Rowley.
Salford themselves have won three of their Super League games so far in 2022, having beaten Castleford Tigers, Toulouse Olympique and most recently Leeds Rhinos.
