Leon Pryce defends Kyle Eastmond following retirement

Kyle Eastmond Rugby League

Leon Pryce and Kyle Eastmond go way back.

Having come through the St Helens academy, Eastmond made his debut in 2007 – one year after Pryce had swapped Yorkshire for Lancashire following a transfer from Bradford.

The duo played at Knowsley Road for five seasons before Pryce moved to Catalans and Eastmond moved codes to rugby union, but they have remained close ever since.

And, following Eastmond’s retirement from both codes last summer due to injury and a lost love for the game, Pryce has met up with his friend – who he likens to family.

Pryce spoke out about the meeting on Instagram, saying: “So good to pop and see my boy @eastmond_k for a catch up today. From our travelling days together at Saints to now both retired. I’ve always watched Kyle with the same sense of pride as watching my family because I’ve seen him work his way to the top and always stayed in touch.

“Rugby is a very very very hard sport and most players play until they their body’s won’t let them play anymore, but with Kyle he’s set himself up for life, made good career decisions and now has retired at 31 on his own terms with a healthy body and a healthy mind, and set him and his family up for life.

“I’m so proud of everything you’ve accomplished & achieved. It’s like seeing my son succeed at life. Yes Kyle.”
