Lenagan targets game against NZ Warriors in London

Just weeks after the announcement that Wigan and Hull will travel to Australia for a Super League match, Ian Lenagan has told a radio station that he would love to see the Cherry and Whites take on the New Zealand Warriors.

Wigan and Hull’s trip Down Under next year will see them face South Sydney Rabbitohs and St George Illawarra Dragons respectively, and the ambitious Lenagan is eyeing up another contest with an NRL club.

Shaun Wane’s men went to Australia in 2014 for the World Club Challenge against Sydney Roosters, but they also had a warmup match with the Warriors.

Lenagan talked to Trackside Radio about the bond between Wigan and the Kiwis, saying: “We would love New Zealand Warriors to come over to the UK and play against Wigan, for example,”

“That would be one of the most attractive games we could do and we’d like to play that in London as an example.

“We hope that will start the ball rolling and people will realise the massive commercial opportunity worldwide of club international rugby league.”
