Leigh v St Helens: Predicted line-ups and late injury news

Tonight sees Super League new boys Leigh take on Champions St Helens. The Saints have won all four of their league fixtures so far this campaign and will be expected to make it five from five tonight. However, Leigh won’t go down without a fight. They beat the Saints in a pre-season friendly don’t forget.

The good news for Leigh is that Nathaniel Peteru, Matty Widle and Junior Sa’u could all return. However, I expect the latter two not to be risked especially with new signing Anthony Gelling available at centre leaving Sa’u with more time to fully recover. Joe Mellor, Adam Sidlow, Blake Wallace and Brendan Elliot all remain unavailable.

There’s good news for St Helens too on the injury front as they welcome Tommy Makinson back into the side. That does however leave coach Kristian Woolf with quite the selection headache thanks to the form of Jack Welsby. Thus, I can see Welsby starting this one on the bench. Meanwhile Joel Thompson is absent due to a foot injury meaning Joe Batchelor is likely to fill in at second-row. The Champions are still without Matty Lees and Morgan Knowels.
