Leigh secure Ellis signing for 2021

Leigh Centurions have signed experienced half-back Jamie Ellis from Hull KR for the 2021 season.

The 30-year-old will bring a wealth of experience to the Leigh Sports Village having played over 100 Super League games for numerous clubs.

Speaking on the signing, head coach John Duffy said: “I’ve known Jamie for a long time and he’s someone who can lead us around the park.

“He has a lot of top flight experience and is the type of player we will need to be where we want to be next season. Jamie has a great kicking game and will be a real asset.

“In Super League he has worked under some very good coaches and I know he can’t wait to pull on a Leigh jersey again. It’s a massive signing for us.”

It will be Ellis’ second stint at the Centurions having spent a memorable season at the club in 2011.

He scored 34 tries in 31 games that year and also played alongside current head coach Duffy throughout the campaign.

Recalling his previous stint, Ellis said: “That was one of the best times of my career. I’d love to replicate that in 2021 and I am really looking forward to being back at Leigh.

“It’s a great club, a great town and it’s got great fans and I can’t wait to play in front of them again.

“I have been mates with John since we played together. When he started coaching I texted him every time he moved to a new club asking when he was going to sign me and I’ve always wanted the chance to play for him.

“I’m excited to sign for Leigh because we are going to have a really strong squad next season with some exciting new arrivals adding to an established squad.

“I think Leigh would have gone close to promotion this year had the season not been halted.”
