Leigh are back in Super League and back with a bang.
They have a new name changing from the Leigh Centurions to the Leigh Leopards. On top of this, they have made some major signings like former Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors star Zak Hardaker as well as highly sought after centre Ricky Leutele from Huddersfield Giants.
Add this to the star power they already had and they are set for a big season. But can they finally avoid relegation unlike in 2005, 2017 and 2021?
As they welcome back Super League back to Leigh Sports Village, not only are they set to welcome last year’s semi-finalist to the ground but famous band Scouting For Girls.
They of course host Salford Red Devils who have only strengthened after a stunning 2022 season. Can they kick on?
Injury and suspension News
Joe Wardle is a doubt after picking up a hip injury against Warrington Wolves whilst Aaron Smith also went off after a knock on the shoulder however Adrian Lam has assured that both should be fine.
Former Leeds prop Ava Seumanufagai missed that game having only just arrived in the country but should be ready to debut on Friday.
There is a concern over the potential suspension of Tom Amone after his involvement in an incident with Josh McGuire which could see him hit with a long term ban at a tribunal today.
Salford Red Devils
Ryan Brierley and Kallum Watkins have recovered well in pre-season and both have got minutes into their legs ahead of the new season which is a huge bonus for the Red Devils and boss Paul Rowley.
Watkins was named skipper in pre-season.
Joe Burgess has missed both of Salford’s pre-season friendlies against Swinton Lions and Wigan Warriors so it is unclear whether he will feature on the wing.
Worryingly, Rowley has said that they only have 19 players fit for Round One so things appear even worse than they seem.
How to watch
The game is live on Sky Sports Arena from 19:30. The game itself kicks off at 20:00.
