Leigh Leopards v Wigan Warriors team news with surprise selection and returning key man

Wigan Warriors

Matt Peet has been dealt a big boost as he prepares his Wigan Warriors side for Friday’s clash with Leigh Leopards. Wigan take on Leigh knowing they have to up their performance levels after hitting a bit of slump over the last three games.

The Cherry and Whites have only lost one of those, with defeat coming at Wakefield Trinity. But they needed last minute tries to overcome both Huddersfield Giants and Castleford Tigers and spare their blushes.

As such, it’s clear the Warriors aren’t firing on all cylinders but the return of Abbas Miski might help to turn things around. The winger has missed the last two months of action after undergoing surgery on his knee.

However, he has been deemed fit enough to be included in the 21-man squad this week. It remains to be seen if he will play, of course, but that comes as a big boost, particularly with Liam Marshall a doubt at present.

Marshall has been included in the squad, but after limping out of the game at Wakefield and rolling his ankle in the warm up at The Jungle, a decision has not been made on whether he will be involved. Jake Wardle is named after appearing to take a knock to the pectoral last time out.

Miski’s return means Jacob Douglas drops out, while Harvie Hill will serve the last match of the two-match ban he received following his red card at reserves level. Harvey Makin is the other man to step in this week.

Leigh Leopards boss Adrian Lam has named David Armstrong in his 21-man squad despite picking up a knee injury last time out against Leeds Rhinos. His inclusion comes as a big surprise and he remains a doubt for the clash on Friday night.

Darnell McIntosh drops out with the injury he picked up at Headingley, while Robbie Mulhern is a notable absentee, too.

Alec Tuitavake comes back in after serving his one match suspension while summer recruits Andrew Badrock and AJ Towse both feature in the squad, suggesting they have been recalled from their season-long loans at Widnes Vikings.
