Leigh Leopards star looking for extra edge as he considers using leading brand to help training

They say sport at the highest level is decided by the finest of margins and in Super League that has been the case again and again.

The knock on from the 1999 Grand Final, the Kevin Sinfield tackle on Kyle Eastmond just before he scored what would have been the winning try in the 2009 decider against Leeds Rhinos, the Lee Smith try from the same game and the controversial on side call, the bounce of the ball that made Jack Welsby a St Helens legend and even last year when Leeds’ late try saw them secure a play-off spot and ultimately a seat in the fast lane on the road to Old Trafford when instead it could have been Castleford Tigers.

So, it is fair for athletes, and especially rugby league players to look to find any edge they can on their opponents which is why rest and recovering has become so important to success.

This may also be why Leigh Leopards winger and former Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves star Josh Charnley is considering using Whoop as he took to Twitter to say:

“Who’s got a Whoop? Worth getting for the recover side of training?”

Then former Huddersfield Giants and St Helens man Keith Mason encouraged him to pursue the purchase.

But what is whoop? Well for those of us who have a fitbit, it is similar to this.

According to their website, they are “the world’s most powerful fitness and health membership.”

They go on to say:

“As a member, get the latest, most advanced WHOOP hardware for free — every time another generation is released.

“WEAR IT ANY-WEAR™ Comfortable enough to wear non-stop thanks to new, durable SuperKnit bands, but flexibly designed to be worn off your wrist in new WHOOP Body apparel.

“GET MORE ACCURATE DATA 5 LEDs and 4 photodiodes capture your data more often than most wearables, providing best-in-class accuracy validated in lab studies and with third-party testing.

“TRACK METRICS 24/7 Wirelessly charge your WHOOP with a waterproof* battery pack and capture data continuously—even while in the shower or washing dishes.

“AN APP FOR EVERY INSIGHT Get the newest features and product releases delivered right to your 4.0 the second they’re available.”

This includes a strain mode, a sleep mode and a behavioural log.

It is interesting to see a Super League star consider using something like this and shows just how competitive Super League players are as they look to find any way to improve.
