The Leigh Leopards line-up could look very different this week, with a number of key players in doubt ahead of kick-off.
The Leopards’ 21-man squad this week revealed the absence of Edwin Ipape, Aaron Pene and Frankie Halton, meaning the side was already depleted, but Adrian Lam has now confirmed that the injury list could grow.
Ipape misses out on HIA protocols, whilst Halton’s season is over with a pec injury that requires surgery. On the latter, Lam said in his weekly press conference: “He’s going to be out and needs an operation. He’s going to be out for the rest of the season.”
As well as those three, Leigh could also be without star winger Josh Charnley, who was labelled a “serious doubt” by Lam.
“He just twisted his ankle on the weekend and he’s been in a boot up until today,” revealed the boss.
“He’s obviously scored the most tries in Super League [history] and we’d rather him be out there, but he’s probably a big chance of not playing. We’re going to give him up until kick-off, and then we’ll make a decision.”
David Armstrong is another who could miss this week. The electric full-back has an ankle injury that could see him sidelined for what is undoubtedly Leigh’s biggest league game of the season so far.
In more positive news, Robbie Mulhern, Andy Badrock and Jacob Alick-Wiencke are all available, so it’s certainly mixed injury news heading into tomorrow’s game for Adrian Lam.
Will Brough has been named in the initial 21, and could make just his second Super League appearance if either Charnley or Armstrong doesn’t make the teamsheet come 8pm Friday.
