Leigh Leopards star Josh Charnley granted huge honour

Josh Charnley and his Leigh Leopards teammates will still be on cloud nine after beating Champions St Helens last night.

The Leopards came back from 12-0 down to win 20-12 with Zak Hardaker and on loan from Wigan Warriors Joe Shorrocks scoring late tries to secure the famous win and make it two defeats in a row for the World Champions.

Charnley had been the hero the previous week as he scored two acrobatic tries including the winner against Hull KR to record Leigh’s first win of the season.

Now though his 2023 season has gotten even better with the news that he has been granted the honour of an RFL testimonial.

He confirmed this with the following statement:

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that the RFL have granted me a 12 month testimonial for 2024.

“Thank you to the RFL and to the clubs I have been involved with.

“My testimonial year will be the perfect opportunity not to just look back at all those great times and achievements, but also to acknowledge and reflect upon those who inspired me to achieve a point in my career, which as a kid, I could only have dreamed of.

“Forever grateful.

Charnley was only the third player ever to score 200 Super League tries a feat all the more impressive given his time in rugby union.

He is also a former Grand Final winner with Wigan Warriors and starred for Warrington Wolves.

Now at Leigh there is a chance he could become Super League’s all time leading scorer not that many behind Ryan Hall or Danny McGuire,
