Leigh Leopards have made their ninth signing ahead of the 2025 season with the son of a Super League legend arriving at the club.
Tasked with a major squad overhaul after the exit of so many key senior players, Chris Chester has gone about his business in style with four overseas recruits to go with his four domestic signings.
Only one of those four domestic signings has Super League experience but Leigh Leopards have now confirmed the signing of a fifth domestic player, who just happens to be the son of a Super League legend.
Danny Brough came close to racking up 2,500 points in Super League and Leigh Leopards have just signed his son, Will Brough, to a 12-month contract.
A statement on the club’s website confirmed the signing, explaining: “Leigh Leopards are delighted to confirm the signing of Will Brough on a 12-month contract.”
Will, who is just 18, has been playing for Wakefield Trinity’s Academy and Reserve sides and will offer depth at centre after the Leopards saw the likes of Ricky Leutele, Zak Hardaker and Ed Chamberlain all leave in 2024.
Leigh Leopards sign exciting young centre and son of goal-kicking icon
Unsurprisingly, Brough is a goal kicker just like his father and with goal-kicking options such as Matt Moylan and Zak Hardaker having left the club, Leigh will be covered if Brough can force his way into the first team.
Speaking on the signing, Director of Rugby Chris Chester said: “Will is a young, tall athletic centre, standing 6ft 3. I have been keeping an eye on him during his time at Wakefield including when he played against our Reserves side this season.
“Will is an excellent goal kicker, just like his dad, and I am looking forward to watching his progression in 2025.”
As for the player himself, Will Brough added: “I am over the moon about the opportunity to be coached by Adrian Lam and can’t wait to meet the boys.
“Signing with a Super League team like Leigh Leopards is a dream come true for me, something I’ve always aspired to as a young lad.
“I’m buzzing to get started and hope to play in front of the Leigh fans in the coming years!”
Fans will be excited to watch him forge his own path in the sport but the legacy of his father will follow him with Danny Brough making over 500 appearances in his club career with a total of just shy of 4,000 points for club and country.
The majority of his playing career came with Huddersfield Giants with all of those club appearances while representing clubs in Yorkshire but his son now strays over to Lancashire to earn his Super League shot.
