Leigh Leopards’ Robbie Mulhern linked with move to NRL club

Leigh Leopards forward Robbie Mulhern is reportedly a target for NRL side South Sydney Rabbitohs.

That’s according to The Mole, who claims the Leigh man could seen as an option for Souths should they lose Australian international Keaon Kolomatangi.

Kolomatangi has been linked with a move to Parramatta Eels for the 2027 NRL season in a deal said to be around $4 million. St George Illawarra Dragons have also been linked and if he opts to move on, he would be a big loss for the Bunnies.

However, it seems they are assessing their options and according to the report, Mulhern is one they are looking at. The 31-year-old has been a star performer at Leigh since joining the club in 2023, with the prop making 78 appearances in leopard print.

In that time he has helped Adrian Lam’s side win the Challenge Cup, while the Leopards have claimed a spot in the play-offs on three separate occasions. Indeed, Mulhern’s form through the middle has been pivotal for the Leopards and he has managed to push himself into the England picture, with many believing he should have been included in Shaun Wane’s Ashes squad.

However, like a number of key men at Leigh, including Umyla Hanley, Owen Trout and Bailey Hodgson, Mulhern is now in the final year of his contract at Leigh Sports Village.

As such, an exit looks likely if Leigh Leopards don’t move swiftly to tie him down and he has already been linked with a move to Castleford Tigers, which would reunite him with former Leigh director of rugby Chris Chester.

The possibility of a move to the NRL would certainly appeal for Mulhern, though, and if the report is to be believed, it would seem as though clubs down under are starting to ramp up their recruitment from the Northern Hemisphere.

Harry Newman has already signed with NRL new boys Perth Bears for 2027, George Williams will return to the competition at the end of the season, too, while Morgan Knowles and Morgan Gannon have gone over for 2026, with moves to Dolphins and New Zealand Warriors respectively.
