Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont confirms huge increase in shirt sales

Leigh Leopards

Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont has revealed a huge increase in sales after the club released their away shirt for the 2025 Super League season.

Heading into their third consecutive year in Super League and their third as the rebranded Leopards, Leigh have made a splash with their bold shirt designs in recent years.

The change from Centurions to Leopards was widely mocked by rival fans when first announced, even more so when the club’s shirt featured leopard print and a set of glaring eyes.

However, it’s now come to be accepted as one of the sport’s best rebrands and once again the leopard print pattern and glaring eyes feature on the away shirt for the 2025 Super League campaign.

Released on New Years Day, the shirt dubbed ‘Stealth Leopard’ blends black and blue with the leopard’s eyes sitting just between their shirt sponsor Jet2 and the club crest.

Whilst it has split opinion, it’s generally been well-accepted – certainly by the Leigh Leopards fans, as owner Derek Beaumont revealed.

Leigh Leopards record incredible shirt sales

Beaumont took to X, formerly Twitter, to reveal just how impressive the shirt sales had been on day one relative to the 2024 season.

The shirt, which is priced at £52 and available for pre-order, went on sale at 12:00 pm and recorded more than 500 sales in the first 10 hours – a 40% increase on the 2024 season.

That was revealed by Beaumont, who posted at 10:01 pm: “More than 500 sold on day one and 40 percent increase on this stage last year! Outstanding effort from our famileigh.”

It’s a mightily impressive start to sales for the club and highlights their growing and developing fan base with the Leopards one of the teams to increase their attendance figure from 2023 to 2024.

Average attendance at the Leigh Sports Village for Super League matches increased by over 1,000 with the figure jumping from 7,254 to 8,391 – the largest percentage increase of any Super League club.

With the club having made the play-offs in back to back seasons, there is a major feel-good factor around Leigh Leopards, as highlighted by these shirt sales, and that attendance figure could yet improve again in 2025.

Meanwhile Liverpool record about €132,000,000 a year in replica kit sales alone. At £52 a shirt Derek has some shortfall to catch up on there! Ifhe can just shift another 2,540,000 or so shirts.
