Leigh Leopards prop Robbie Mulhern says his side use St Helens as a “blueprint”, following their 18-12 victory over them last week.
The Leopards locked in a play-off spot with a win over Saints, following a period of form that saw them win 1o of their final 12 regular season games.
It’s a remarkable feat, and it still went down to the very final game – a loss would have seen them finish seventh behind Catalans Dragons.
It was a win over a side that won four Grand Finals in a row, before falling to Catalans Dragons at the semi-final stage last year.
Leigh Leopards man says they use St Helens as a “blueprint”
Speaking on Sky Sports‘ The Verdict, Robbie Mulhern said, on their win over St Helens: “We sort of use Saints as a blueprint, if you look at them over the last five years, they’ve been incredible.
“We just said we’re just going to have to do it together, and I think it was such a physical game – all the boys were so beat up after but we did it well.
“And then I think it was really pleasing when we went down to 12 and we didn’t stop believing, we ended up getting that brilliant try and it was such a good feeling.
“Like I say, it was just so defence focused and it was a tough game.”
Saints themselves will face Warrington Wolves in their eliminator clash, in a replay of last year’s eliminator game, but this time, Burgess’ men go in as favourites.
Leigh Leopards have Salford Red Devils to welcome, and may feel that they are the slight favourites for this one.
Paul Rowley did rest a number last week – with 17 changes to the 21-man squad made – and it’s not yet clear what effect this will have on how they play this week.
