Leigh Leopards man opens up on Love Island experience

Keanan Brand and Adrian Lam of Leigh Leopards

Leigh Leopards man Keanan Brand has opened up after having a break from Super League to take part in reality TV show Leigh Leopards.

The winger, an Ireland international, started his career with Widnes Vikings before a Super League move to Warrington Wolves in 2020.

He was a consistent starter for the Leopards before his TV debut.

Brand spent three weeks on the show in South Africa, appearing in a few episodes, but it took him a year-and-a-half to finally return to Super League action.

He has been behind some top wingers – Darnell McIntosh has taken his chance after a swap-deal for Tom Briscoe, and Josh Charnley has also been a starter.

Umyla Hanley, recently, has also been a key name for Adrian Lam.

Now, he has spoken on the experience.

Speaking to the Mirror, Hanley said: “It was a great experience.

“It taught me a lot about myself and I think I needed that to grow up as a person. I’m glad I did it. In terms of my rugby, Love Island probably did set me back a year from where I wanted to be. It’s taken me a while to get back into it.

“But I am now. I can say I’m happy I did it and it made me a better person and probably a better player. It helped me mature.”

“I’m still Keanan. The same old lad! It cleared my head and made me realise what I want in life. It made me miss the game, if I’m honest. It’s been amazing playing these last couple of weeks.”

Brand appeared on the wing at Magic Weekend, and started again last week in victory over London Broncos.
