Dewsbury Rams have boosted their squad for next season with the signing Valu Tane Bentley from Leigh Leopards.
The Rams have spent this season in League One, but they will be making the step back up to the second tier in 2026 as part of an enlarged Championship competition and the signing of Bentley comes as a big boost.
Bentley has played both codes and over the last few years, with time being spent with Fylde RFC as well as Leigh and Keighley Cougars. The back-rower made six appearances for the Cougars last season before making a return to Leigh on a short-term deal.
However, he has been released by the Super League play-off semi-finalists, without making a first team appearance, and allowed to join Dewsbury on a deal for the new season.
On the signing of Bentley, head coach Paul March said: “We’re pleased to have Tane join the Rams.
“Following the departures of Matt Garside and Keenen Tomlinson, one of our key priorities was to bring in a player who could contribute in a similar way.
“Tane comes to us from Leigh and brings high work rate, aggression, and intelligence to the team. I’m looking forward to working with him and helping him reach his full potential.”
Bentley is the son of former Gateshead Thunder and Oldham player Valu Jack Bentley and spent time in the academies of both Wigan Warriors and Sale Sharks as a youngster.
The Rams have also completed the signing of former Bradford Bulls man George Rayner on a one-year deal, with March’s squad for the new season beginning to come together.
