Leigh Leopards make Matt Davis contract decision as 2027 future clarified

Leigh Leopards have made a contract call on Matt Davis, after his future remained uncertain following the end of the campaign.

Davis has penned a deal to stay at the Leopards’ Den for another 12 months, with Leigh confirming that he has inked a new contract.

The former London and Warrington man was the final Leigh player to have an unresolved future, following the news that Gareth O’Brien would also stay put for another season.

Davis has missed part of the year through concussion and head issues, but remains a vital part of Adrian Lam’s side. The 150-game Super League veteran will now head into a fifth season at Leigh.

Leigh Leopards re-sign Matt Davis for 2027

“Coming into a contract year, I always knew this is where I wanted to stay,” Davis told the Leopards’ club website. “I knew I wanted to stay with this bunch of lads and the coaching staff.

“I’ve been here for four years, and I feel like we’ve done a really good job. I knew I wanted to stay, it was right for myself and my family as well. I’m obviously really happy.”

Head coach Lam added: “Matty has been a mainstay of the club since the rebrand to Leigh Leopards and has been a big driver in improving the standards here, and he’s someone I look to a lot to help with that.

“In a year with a lot of turnover, it’s a big positive for the club to retain Matty’s services. He’s one of the senior players in the group and brings a lot of experience and quality.”
