Leigh Leopards have confirmed the signing of Bailey Hodgson on a contract until the end of November 2026 from Manly Sea Eagles, with immediate effect.
The nephew of former England, Hull KR and Canberra Raiders star Josh Hodgson, Bailey made his debut for Castleford Tigers in 2020 at the age of just 18 – against Hull KR, where his uncle made over 100 appearances.
He signed for Newcastle Knights after that season, but due to a torrid time with injuries, Hodgson didn’t manage to play a single NRL match for the club.
This year, after time with Manly’s NSW Cup feeder side Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles, he will now likely make his first first-grade appearance since making his debut four years ago.
He did, however, play for Manly Sea Eagles in the NRL Pre-Season Challenge this year, in games against Sydney Roosters and Brisbane Broncos.
Primarily a fullback, he has been utilised as a centre often this year, potentially helping the club move into the 2025 season – as all of their currently-contracted centres aren’t tied down for next year.
Once a huge Super League prospect, he is still just 21, and will now hope to fulfill his potential.

Leopards Head of Rugby Chris Chester said: “Bailey’s a talent who is highly regarded by a lot of people who I trust so I’m glad we’ve been able to bring him back over to the UK.
“He’s still very young and full of potential. He’s going to be a real asset toward the final stretch of this year and beyond.”
Bailey Hodgson said: “I am really excited and grateful to be joining Leigh Leopards this season, and competing back on home soil.
“I had a few tough years over in Australia with injuries but when the opportunity with Leigh came up it felt like the perfect way to start a new chapter.”
“I am looking forward to getting started as soon as possible and showcasing what I can bring to the team.”
