Leigh Leopards are ‘leading the chase’ to bring Tom Amone back to Super League. That’s according to Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks, who also suggested a reported move for Jake Clifford looks unlikely at this point due to visa issues.
Amone only left Leigh at the end of last season with the forward returning to the NRL to join Canterbury Bulldogs. However, as it stands he is yet to play a first grade game for the club.
Instead he has made four appearances for the club’s New South Wales Cup second string side, including one start, and according to Brooks, there has been talk about a return to Super League already, with Leigh pushing to bring the forward back to the club.
That’s despite signing Alec Tuitavake as a replacement for the prop in the off-season. Amone spent three seasons with Leigh, joining the club in 2022 while they were still in the Championship. Promotion came in his first season before going on to help the Leopards establish themselves in Super League and win the Challenge Cup.
He made 87 appearances for the club in that time with 17 tries coming along the way. As such, he remains a firm favourite in Leigh and if the club can secure his return, it would undoubtedly be a popular move.
“Jake Clifford has been linked with a move to the Leigh Leopards, I understand that it looks unlikely due to visa issues,” Brooks said as part of a news round-up ahead of Thursday night’s clash between Castleford Tigers and Hull FC. “What about Tom Amone? Well, I believe he is interested in a move back to the UK. I can tell you it is his former club Leigh Leopards who are leading the chase.”
Brooks then went on to back up the story Serious About Rugby League brought you last week about Hull FC’s interest in Newcastle Knights half-back Will Pryce.
