Leigh Leopards confirm departure list as future of key trio remains unclear

Leigh Leopards have officially released their confirmed list of departing players as the club finalises its roster preparations ahead of the 2027 Super League season.

Among those officially confirmed to be leaving the Leigh Sports Village are Robbie Mulhern and Ben McNamara, who will both be joining Castleford Tigers, and powerhouse forward Owen Trout, who signed a two year deal with Cronulla Sharks to join the NRL side.

Young full-back Bailey Hodgson is also confirmed to depart for Hull FC along with forward Isaac Liu.

Alongside these departures, veteran stalwart Jack Hughes has officially brought the curtain down on his career with his retirement from the sport.

In a statement, the club said: “Each player has made a valued contribution during their time in a Leigh Leopards shirt, representing the club with commitment, professionalism and pride,

“From the work put in on the training ground to the moments shared with our supporters on matchday, all five have played their part in the continued journey of the Leopards and have earned the respect and appreciation of everyone connected with the club.”

While these high-profile exits map out major changes for Adrian Lam’s squad, the departure list has also cast an immediate spotlight on the off-contract players whose names were conspicuously absent.

Notable omissions hint at unclear future for Leopards trio

Among the group whose futures had previously been the subject of widespread speculation, Gareth O’Brien, Matty Davis, and Ryan Brown were completely left off the club’s official departure confirmations.

The omission of the trio strongly indicates that they are set to remain at the Leigh Sports Village for the upcoming campaign.

While official club confirmation regarding new terms is still pending for some, young forward Ryan Brown has been heavily rumoured to have penned a new deal with the Leopards to secure his continuation in the squad.

Retaining experience in key areas, such as O’Brien’s playmaking utility and Davis’ dependable middle-forward work, provides crucial squad continuity for Adrian Lam’s side as they balance these departures with retention heading into 2027.
